Daily Self Check-ins
2025 is here! A new year, a fresh start, a clean slate…well, kind of!
While most of us likely started this year with great intentions, I believe we transition over with the same slate we had in the previous year. It doesn’t magically become clean on January 1st. We have to do the work to clean it, regardless of what day it is!
Ok, so how do we clean our slates every day? How do we give ourselves a fresh start?
There are a lot of things we can do to actually do the work. My favorite are daily self check-ins. For me, this is the simplest way to clear my mind and heart and deal with whatever I’m thinking and feeling in the moment.
Here’s how they work…
Pick a few times a day when you can take 2-3 minutes to sit quietly. I like to do this once before I start working, when I’m transitioning over to mommy responsibilities, and at the end of the day before I go to bed. Pick the times that work best for you.
As you’re sitting quietly, take a few deep belly breaths, letting your out breath be long and steady.
Then, ask yourself (in the third person), “XXX, how are you feeling mentally right now? What thoughts are floating around in your mind? How are you feeling emotionally? How are you feeling physically?” Depending on the answers that come, ask yourself, “What is one small action to help you feel better about XXX?”
And here’s the key….whatever that action is you must do it! You have to have follow through or else you will continue to be stuck right where you are. This is where ‘doing the work’ comes into play.
I love this idea because it requires nothing of anyone else and very little of us…just a little bit of time, patience, and action.
I’m committed to these check-ins in 2025 because they help me show up as the best version of myself.I hope you give this idea a try too!
