3 Mindset Shifts to Get the Most Out of Your Coaching Journey

Congratulations! You’ve signed up for an exciting coaching package with a coach that resonates with you. Now what?

Well, while I believe the coaching process is magical and can change your life, there a few mindset shifts everyone should be familiar with before starting the journey.

Let’s jump right in.

  1. You will get out of coaching what you put into it. This means that the time in between coaching sessions is just as important as the time you spend with your coach. You have to do the work to see the results, and this generally happens when you’re living life and facing challenging situations. Coaching is a commitment worth making, however to see changes, you need to commit to changing your original programming first.

  2. Stay open and honest, especially when you feel uncomfortable. Your coach is going to challenge your thoughts, limiting beliefs, assumptions, and interpretations. Stay open throughout the process – open to new insights, new thinking, new emotions...all of it. And remember, the process works when you’re honest, with yourself and your coach. When you come to every session with this perspective, you’ll see that you have exactly what you need inside of you - the ideas, reflections, and motivation – to change your mindset and achieve your goals.

  3. Take coaching seriously, but always go in with a play-oriented mindset. What I mean by this is the more fun you have in your coaching sessions, the more likely it is that your subsequent actions are going to be a success. Play around with ideas, laugh at yourself, etc. Sometimes the silliest seeming things end up being the most fruitful. Don’t take yourself too seriously!

If you’re currently working with a coach or have worked with one in the past, what mindset shifts helped you get the most out of your sessions?
