Managing the Unsuccessful Bounce Back

The unsuccessful bounce back.

It happens to the best of us. You know, where you feel angry, sad, frustrated, etc. but don’t let yourself fully feel the emotion before trying to elevate yourself to more constructive ones.

It’s so easy because these days we’re constantly being told we should be grateful and how life isn’t as bad as it seems. And while gratitude and perspective are amazing and so necessary, it’s 110% ok to feel what you’re feeling in the current moment. In fact, I encourage you to wear your emotions like your favorite pair of shoes and walk around a bit. Question your thoughts and feelings. Dig deep into what got you here.

Do. The. Work.

…especially before catapulting yourself to feelings of happiness, job, gratitude, etc.

The main reason for this is because if you don’t sit with your present emotions, if you keep pushing those feelings aside, if you don’t address them, they’re only going to come back…but with a vengeance. You’ll experience the unsuccessful bounce back.

Start today. Whatever it is you’re feeling, tell yourself ‘this too shall pass, but while we’re here, let’s get to the core of it, so that my bounce backs are more successful over time.’
